Coho Winery Part 1

By philiprichardson

I'm about to embark on the construction of a demo CRM implementation. The demo is really for the personal use by me and a few close colleagues in the Program Management (PM) team. As Titan enters the 'endgame' towards RTM – the PM team typically has many requests to demo/discuss the product both internally and externally. To avoid the labourious and repetitive task of demo preparation I intend to get ahead of the curve by having one 'mega scenario' at the ready.

A quick brainstorm with one of my colleagues turned up a scenario for us: Coho Winery. The company is a fictitious (of course) organization which produces wine. It runs a retail operation at it's winery, a mail order/internet wine club and a wholesale distribution channel. I'll use CRM in its core SFA/Service/Marketing role and as a generic line of business platform. The following scenarios will be considered:

  • Sales Force Automation for the sales team selling the wholesale product.
  • Club Membership.
  • Up/Sell and Cross/Sell at the Retail Wine Store.
  • Service Scheduling for Wine Classes and Tastings for High Value Clients.
  • Function Center operations (sales + service).
  • Full marketing operations for all areas of the business.
  • Reporting for staff, line managers and executives.
  • Wine Reviewer Relations.
  • Customer Service Call Center.
  • Vineyard Operations (planting, harvesting, scheduling).

My goal is to build the solution out in a packaged form – allowing us to move it between builds and environments with ease (eg. Virtual Machines, Physical Machines and CRM Live). If things go well we may choose to share it out: first with our broader R&D team, then marketing, then the Microsoft field and then the customers/partners. However my goal is relatively selfish: reduce reptitive demo prep time for me and my immediate peers.

I'll be blogging my progress in building out the solution and sharing my experiences (within the limits of what we can discuss about Titan). In the end I might make a screencast demo available for viewing.
